Slabriki (Senna alata)
Slabriki (Senna alata): Tradition and Strength
Traditional herb from Suriname & tropical regions
Available as dried leaves
Slabriki, often referred to in Suriname simply as Cassia or Senna leaf, is a well known shrub with large, oval leaves and striking yellow flowers. Within Surinamese oso dresi, this herb has been used for generations, both externally and internally in short periods.
The broad leaves are usually used fresh or dried and are known for their clearly bitter, earthy, and slightly sweet taste. Slabriki is traditionally seen as a strong bitter leaf, used consciously and not for long periods. It is traditionally consumed for kowrubere or trangabere.
